ConvertKit Affiliate Program (2024)

The ConvertKit affiliate program is very attractive to affiliate marketers, and in this article, you will learn why together with the ways in which you can promote ConvertKit.

ConvertKit is a relatively new email marketing software which is really easy to use and so it is a perfect option for new bloggers. ConvertKit has a visual automation builder that allow users to display all their workflows into the context. Besides email automatization, it is bundled with opt-in forms and landing pages. Opt-in forms can be easily added to WordPress sites through their ConvertKit WordPress plugin.

ConvertKit has four plans, and prices reflect subscriber totals. Their cheapest plan for zero to 1,000 subscribers costs $29/month. All plans come with a 14-day free trial.

ConvertKit Affiliate Program Review

You can promote the ConvertKit affiliate program even if you are not a user of ConvertKit yourself. All you have to do is to sign in on their ambassador page and you will be able to promote ConvertKit right away.

The affiliate landing page is quite hard to find. You will not find it anywhere on ConvertKit’s homepage.

The page is also not the best. It’s missing essential information like cookie duration, availability of deep linking, etc. All this information can be found on the ConvertKit help center, but again it will take you time to find it. They should have a single FAQ page about their affiliate program easily accessible just like, for instance, eBay or Fiverr has for their affiliate programs.

At the time of writing this article, the ConvertKit affiliate program was temporarily closed due to migration to a new affiliate tracking software called LinkMink (should open again in November 2019). ConvertKit used to use an affiliate tracking software called ‘Ambassador’ which didn’t give affiliates the ability to track referral churn, monitor traffic sources and more.

If you want to learn more about the migration and how the new affiliate tracking software works, you can check the migration FAQ.

The referral period on Ambassador used to be 30-day, but now on LinkMink it is 90-day, which is great.

However, the program now newly operates on last-click attribution so if a visitor reads your ConvertKit review, clicks on your affiliate link but doesn’t buy and then reads a different review and buys from someone else's affiliate link, then you don’t get any credit for your efforts.

Ambassador did not allow affiliates to create their own unique links and so they had to use only the links provided by ConvertKit.  Besides the homepage, affiliates could also link to other pages like the ConvertKit landing page for a free workshop, etc.

What’s different on LinkMink is that affiliates can create affiliate links to any page on ConvertKit they want.

The program provides affiliate with banners and with screenshots of the main parts of the app which can really come in handy.

ConvertKit Affiliate Program Commission

ConvertKit still pays out a high 30% monthly recurring commission.

Their cheapest plan costs $29/month, and that’s the plan most starting bloggers start with. If someone buys through your link to this plan, you will receive $8.70/month. This may not sound like a lot but don’t forget it’s recurring as long as the person keeps paying for their accounts.

So, if your goal would be to earn $3000/month, you would have to get 346 people to sign up through your link. To earn just $1000/month, you would need to get only 115 people.

You will also most likely send ConvertKit couple accounts with 8,000 subscribers ($99/month), for which you will get commission of $30 every month. The total number of subscribers to reach either the $3000/month or $1000/month benchmark mentioned above will be therefore smaller.

ConvertKit allows you to promote more than just their email marketing software. For instance, you can also promote ‘Creator Pass’. Creator Pass includes access to two courses that teach people how to build an online business and grow an email list.

Creator Pass is either a $199 or $299 one-time payment and you receive 30% commission from it as well, but this is not recurring.

Affiliates can only receive payouts through PayPal. There is no option to withdraw your payouts to your bank account.

ConvertKit pays out commission on the second of each month. Since there is a minimum delay of 30 days before your commission gets approved (to account for any refunds), your commission can be pending as long as 60 days. Generally speaking, if you earn a commission at the beginning of a month, you will wait longer to receive it.

Unlike most affiliate programs, ConvertKit does not have any threshold you have to meet in order to receive your commission. Even if you earn only one commission a month, you will get paid out.

How to Make Money with the ConvertKit Affiliate Program

The ConvertKit Affiliate program is a great opportunity given the 30% monthly recurring commission, and below you can learn some ways in which you can approach promoting it.

The email marketing software space is quite crowded. There are so many similar companies like MailChimp, Aweber, Infusionsoft and many others.

1) Write a comparison with other email marketing software

Writing a comparison is one of the most popular and also the most effective ways to promote any email marketing software. You provide your readers with valuable information so that they can make the right choice in their particular situation.

Remember that you should always mention both the benefits and the limitations of the software.

Even though all the software have similar functionalities, they do differ in many aspects. ConvertKit is a perfect choice for starting bloggers but it is not a great choice for bloggers with bigger lists who need more options.

You can, in detail, describe ConvertKit and some other marketing software and in the end, summarize the pros and cons of each so everyone can decide based on their needs.

Of course, join the affiliate program of the other marketing software so you don’t earn commission just from ConvertKit.

2) Include ConvertKit in your resource page

People like to see what tools or services you use to grow your business. A resource page can help people decide when they are hesitant about similar tools, just as it often helps people discover useful tools that they haven’t heard about before.

Nowadays, everyone, even a new blogger, knows how important it is to grow an email list. Email marketing software is important and people are aware of this.

Include ConvertKit in your resource page and preferably also link to your own review.

3) Share your experience

Write a case study on how your business has grown since you started using their software. How did you use the software and why would you recommend it to others?

For instance, MailChimp is the email software that most people start with as they have a free plan for up to 2000 subscribers. If you write an article about why you switched from MailChimp to ConvertKit, many people will relate to this.

Include your own experiences and make it personal.

4) Mention ConvertKit in your own email sequence

Another way in which you can promote ConvertKit is through your own email sequence. You can stress the importance of email marketing, give people tips about how to use it effectively and along the way mention that you recommend and use ConvertKit.

5) Create a YouTube review

If you have a YouTube channel then creating a ConvertKit review video is a must. Video reviews, in general, convert better than written content. Include your link in the video description.
